Teaching Philosophy

My teaching approach bridges film and media theory with hands-on creative practice. I encourage students to understand not only how to create films and media, but also why particular storytelling, visual, and production choices communicate meaning.

Drawing on my experience as a filmmaker, cinematographer, and media researcher, I bring creative and professional production practices into the classroom while creating an environment where students can experiment, collaborate, and develop their own voices as storytellers.

I approach filmmaking as both a creative practice and a way of thinking. Whether students are analyzing cinema or producing their own work, I encourage them to connect story, theory, visual language, audience, and technique.

Video & Audio Field Production — Instructor of Record
Hands-on instruction in camera operation, composition, lighting, sound recording, visual storytelling, production planning, and post-production workflows.

Film Analysis — Teaching Assistant / Facilitator
Guided students in analyzing cinematic language, narrative structure, mise-en-scène, cinematography, editing, sound, genre, and the relationship between film form and meaning.

Documentary — Teaching Assistant / Facilitator
Supported students in exploring documentary storytelling, ethics, representation, research, and approaches to nonfiction filmmaking.
